We are living in a day and age that is by far easier to stay connected then ever before.

All it takes is that single hand with that handy mobile device to make a call, send a text to a friend afar, talk to others who understand via an online support group, or even send your thoughts and feelings to hundreds of individuals at the swipe of a finger

Yet,all through that state of being connected constantly, millions of people are actually feeling desperately lonely!

How can this happen and be possible when you have dozens of connections?

Communication has definitely been revolutionised due to the ever fast approaching age of technology

Social networking, instantaneous messengers, realtime live video chats, and social networks galore make communication instant and convenient no matter what where the other individual is at.

With even just a single text message capable of replacing a long phone chat ; a person can actually keep in contact with many people they would not most likely get to meet in the future! Truly, tech is for the impatient that's for darn sure.

However ,frequency is not a measure of closeness or meaningfulness of a connection.

Although a particular individual has dozens of texts everyday in the morning, that doesn't actually guarantee them that he/she will have a meaningful relationship with the people. They could be talking to just empty words like likes, emoji texts and comments through an app.

Social networking may actually also make you want to compare constantly with others.

People looking at other people's life on the internet, all the beautiful love and perfect relations they may have will of course cause the person on the internet mental dilemma due to not being sucessful nor meeting up to that expection. It is thus not only difficult but lonely to be one with yourself in that sense.

Fear of missing out just makes the issue even worst when you feel so anxious not to be missing the messages, events, and conversations going on right in the present moment. You may end up with your mind's eye constantly peering at that phone screen where people won't be interacting with others beside you anyway in that way.

For instance;family members dining together in the same room, yet still each person on his or her phone

They maybe around each other's company

But never really with each other in spirit and friends chatting at dinner next to each other without even knowing that a friend beside him uncomfortable with the situation but still continues documenting for Facebook the conversation at hand

As clearly illustrated: this problem really has nothing to do with technology.

Although they could also be tools of a constructive kind to cope with isolation, it is really how we use it...Use technology thoughtfully.

Keep that phone aside when truly interacting ,opt for an intimate phone chat rather than constant refreshing and updating your profile, appreciate relationships and have your ears always readily available, let the web and other social networking sites serve as helpful sites to make a meaningful connection more meaningful in real life.

Ultimately, it is thoughtful connections that count.
