Sometimes we have today was once a goal of our past selves. But today, it become a necessity rather than an achievement. When we achieve something we've want for a long time, we feel excited and happy. But after a short time, we forget the hard work behind our past achievements. Then see something newer or better, and suddenly what we have don't feel as satisfying anymore.

We often lose the happiness of our own success by comparing our achievement with those of others, without considering the differences in their situation. We start comparing a successful job with a business, which is not always the right way, because a business needs time and effort to grow. A corporate worker may compare their freedom with that of blogger without considering the different background and circumstances. We compare our lifestyle with someone whose life is completely different from ours and overlook our own achievements. We forget what we already have, the people who are already present in our lives, and the opportunities we have now while focusing on what we don't have.

We are stuck in a loop that follows a simple pattern: we want some thing fancy, then work hard to achieve it while ignoring the things we have achieved. After getting it, we feel happy for sometime because of the success we have achieved in this race. Then we see something newer or better and start another cycle of hard work to get that thing. This is when ambition becomes dissatisfactions.

Hoping for more doesn't always mean having a better life. After accomplishing one thing, another goal appears, and we again asked ourselves that same question. "If I get this, I'll be satisfied". But when we finally get it, the feeling of satisfaction may not last for long. We soon find some thing new to chase.

It's not wrong to work for better life, better financial security, a better home, or personal growth. Wanting to improve ourselves is important. But this can become a dead-end loop when we constantly compare our achievement with those of others. Instead, we should compare this year with last year, this month to last month, this week to last week, and today to yesterday. Getting better with each step from our past is the race we need to win in life.

What we have today was the once dream or goal of our past. It needs to be celebrated and appreciated at the same time. Just look back at your yesterday and compare it with your today. Are you better? If yes keep going. If not, then work hard for yourself so that your past self can be proud of who you are today.
